Hilton Head Island (MM 563.9)...

Out travels from The Landings to Hilton Head Island continued to be scenic areas of salt marshes with significant tide changes and wildlife.   I was able to see with binoculars an eaglet which was a big puff ball.  I wanted to get a picture but the Captain said something about running aground if we went closer! The picture on the far right  side of the nest shows a little gray brown ball and another picture shows one of the parents up in the tree.  Also there was a red tailed hawk looking out up in a tree.



                                                             

Always seems more laid back with there is less boat traffic.  We did go through the south-southeast side of Savannah on the Savannah River where we saw beautiful houses and a number of marinas.

      

I was disappointed by our time in Hilton Head.  Originally we would be staying 3 nights at Shelter Cove Marina but due to a storm with high north winds we had to reduce it to 2 nights.  The Gullah Museum has limited hours and then when the woman called me back it was 4:30 and she wasn't doing any tours.  I did get to go to the Art League and they had a beautiful exhibition of quilts.  Danny and I rode bikes and went to Coligny Beach.  We had one of the weirdest dinner we have ever had.  But great meals at Ela's and Social Bakery.  The fact that spring break was going on and according to the Uber driver, many families come here this week and the men leave and go to Augusta for the Masters made for it being very crowded. When I looked  up how long to get to Augusta, it’s less than 3 hours so I guess doable. 



                                     


                     

Another place to return to one day.  Hopefully Claire and Dave will be there!





 




Moon was still high when we left this morning.  The sunrise as we were coming out to the ocean.
                              

 Next stop.... John's Island and then Charleston

The Ohio River to the Cumberland River to  Cross the Finishing Line at Grand Rivers! October 18 - 19,  2023 Our traveling down the last 7.7 miles of the Mississippi River were uneventful.  Clear skies remained with us throughout the day.  At Cairo, Illinois (pronounced Karo, like the syrup), we turned onto the Ohio River.  At this point seen in the picture, it is considered the lowest point in Illinois.  At one time, Fort Defiance stood here in the Civil War.  There was a great deal of activity on the water compared to St Louis.  Barges coming, going, and loading.  Not that Danny isn't but, definitely had to be vigilant in what was going on in front and on the sides of your boat.  We s aw another casino no longer operating just pushed up into the shore.     We made it to the Olmstead lock and dam and they lifted The Other Woman and Beach House up 30 feet.  Beach House had trouble holding their lines and ended up floating i...

        Green Turtle Bay to Pebble Isle Marina... November 13, 2022   So here we are leaving Green Turtle Bay Marina in Kentucky heading out to Kentucky Lake part of Tennessee River.  We saw little traffic Sunday morning and it was cold- 2 layers of clothes! And yes, you can see my swollen face, bruise, and laceration 😢  Our approach into Pebble Isle Marina... Danny didn't believe the markers and see what we found- MUD!  Danny was quite upset the rest of the day.  Of course, the Cowboys game didn't help either.  Found a great place to eat, Tequila John's- Mexican, everything from scratch.  Danny enjoyed the beer (Victoria beer) and we enjoyed talking to the owners- husband the bartender and the wife the cook.   Interesting how he came to Tennessee and his previous work history.
