Traveling the Georgia Coast (MM 601)...
April 3, 2023
We traveled 81 miles leaving Jekyllll Island to Delegal Marina in a private development called The Landings. Very nice area, beautiful scenery and quiet. There are 3 couples who live here starting the Loop in the next 2 weeks. We also met a couple that just finished the Loop as well. While we had the option to use one of their golf carts, we just stayed put, The gnats and bugs were pretty bad. Taking a shower and then covering your body in bug spray again didn't make much sense.
We had great views of the marshes and inlets on the water. Going up the coast we passed the following islands- St Simon, Little St Simon, Spell, St Catherine, Wahlburg, Ossabow, St Peter, Queen Svetland, Levdahl, Skidway, and Raccoon Key.
The wildlife of dolphins, white pelicans, more birds, and 8 bald eagles were special. During our travel we heard something twice that sounded like a crash. I ran to the back of the boat worried the dinghy or engine had become dislodged from its holding or our large cooler fallen into the river. Then Danny started yelling, Jenny it's dolphins on the side of the boat hurry, hurry. There they were 2 dolphins running with us on the starboard side of the boat. It was very exciting...
We also enjoyed the beautiful lighthouses at St Simon Island and Sapelo Island.
